Finally! The moment you’ve all been waiting for (or so I like to think)! I finally found my camera’s USB cord and was able to upload a few pics from fight night and the grand unveiling of my PacQute shirts! Woohoo! It was a great success and everyone loved the shirts! I received a lot of wonderful and positive feedback and even sold a few shirts (many thanks to Jonathan and his mom for letting me turn his backyard into a flea market LOL).
I have to say I was quite nervous and a little unprepared for the night. More so because I didn’t want to be responsible for jinxing our tradition of watching Pacquiao destroy his opponents by having my shirts there. Luckily, we all know how that turned out (*wipes bead of sweat off brow).
From the banquet of food to the company of some newly made friends, this epic night couldn’t have gotten any sweeter. Unfortunately, my camera really sucks ass and most of the pictures I took that night were pretty much at par with having a 4 year old draw the evening with a sponge… on a yellow sticky… a crumpled up sticky (note to self; buy a new camera). At least not all the pictures were made of pixelated poop. I did manage to capture a moment when a herd of PacQutes gathered together to celebrate the victory of Pacquiao (and oh how cute they looked).

A Herd of PacQutes
For anyone who might be interested in obtaining these adorable, one-of-a-kind tee shirts, please email sales@haribonrepublik.com. And lastly, I would like to thank everyone for their support (many who were not featured in the herd). I truly appreciate the love! Ok, super lastly, I also want to announce that today marks the first day of Haribon Republik’s blog life that we reached over 100 visitors in one day! Thank you again and please spread the word!

Pacquiao's historic victory over Cotto
Last night I witnessed one of the greatest fights I have ever seen. It is easily the most epic sporting event I have ever experienced. And for many Filipinos, we all share the same sentiment. Last night, we all watched Manny Pacquiao prove to all the haters, traitors, doubters, non-believers, and the entire world that he is, indisputably, one of the greatest boxers to ever waltz in the ring. Not only did he plow through 6 previous champs with barely a scratch on him (his last with Ricky Hatton, ending the fight at the end of the 2nd round), last night he smashed a record making him the only boxer in history to ever hold 7 championship belts in seven different weight class divisions. His incredibly impressive victory over Miguel Cotto has, in my mind, easily placed him in the book of “I-Don’t-Ever-Have-To-Prove-Jack-Shit-To-You-Stupid-Douchebag-Critics-Ever-Again” (out in bookstores next year… just kidding in case you’re actually taking me seriously about the book).
I have to be completely honest. I didn’t think it was going to go a full high-blood-pressure inducing 12 rounds. I also didn’t think Cotto was going to do as well as he did because I haven’t seen Manny work that hard in a very long time. Secretly, I was sadistically happy to see Pacquiao literally rearrange Cotto’s face (In all fairness, Cotto bruised up Manny’s face a bit too… just a bit).
In the 12th round, when the referee stopped the fight, the entire room exploded into cheers, laughter, and a huge sense of overwhelming pride (except for that one family that was rooting for Cotto… buahahahahaha!!! Wrong house folks!). Excellent night, indeed. But unlike all the buzz after Pacman’s domination over Cotto, I don’t give a damn whether he fights Maywheather or not (Mayweather is no longer a worthy opponent. It’s that simple. Mayweather, if you want the money to fight Pacquiao, earn it). I don’t really have a point to this post except to gloat in Manny’s victory (I feel like a giddy school girl). So on that note, I’ll end this before my panties drop. Congratulations, Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao on your historic victory last night! Mabuhay!

Manny Pacqiao "PacQute" Tee
It’s that time of year again! The Manny Pacquiao fight is fast approaching and once again shirts will be available! This time around I’m doing a cartoonish theme. Why? Because the world could use a smile as infectious as Manny’s! Please welcome the Haribon Republik Saturday Morning line, the first of many fun cartoon style designs dedicated to bringing back that happy feeling we all use to get when we’d get up at the crack of Saturday morning to watch cartoons. There will be a very limited amount of shirts for sale but depending on popularity and requests these may or may not get reprinted. Email phil@haribonrepublik.com if you’re interested in obtaining these one of a kind and kick ass shirts!

Just wanted to give all you über chic cats a little update on Haribon Republik. First of all, thank you for visiting Haribon Republik. I truly appreciate the support. Every week Haribon Republik has been advancing in small steps (I openly accept this because small steps are better than no steps which is a giant step from nothing). So far I’ve created over 20 sketches, 10 of which I’ve moved forward with, including a whole new set of Pacquiao shirts that I’m dying to print already!
My toughest challenge at the moment is looking for an affordable printer/manufacturer for apparel. I recently attended the Magic conference in Las Vegas early this September and was blown away by all the new and exciting trends coming up. While I was there I visited the Sourcing area and was overwhelmed by how many manufacturers there were. On top of that barely any of them spoke a word of English which made it very difficult for me to get any information (I’m contemplating on purchasing the Rosetta Stone). I’ll be visiting the Philippines in a few short weeks and am excited and very hopeful that I will make some great connections.
Another challenge I’m facing is that my passion for so many different styles keeps my designs extensive. It’s really hard to stay focused on one style because that one style produces so many other concepts, possibilities, and opportunities. I have a rough idea as to what I’ll do to resolve this situation but more on that later. For now, I’m just designing away whatever my mind can spill on to this digital canvas.
The biggest learning experience I’ve gained so far is to never fear a challenge and to do what you need to do now because later may never come. I’m hoping these baby steps become leaps and bounds soon but there’s no rush. Speaking of baby steps (and totally off the topic), I want to congratulate my two good friends who are expecting their first children next year (not with each other by the way, LOL).
If anyone has any useful advice to offer feel free to leave a comment.
Phil
